From April 21 to 25, 2026, the President of the Biomedical University Foundation, Alessandro Pernigo, and the Secretary General, Laura Picalarga, participated in an institutional mission to the United States. They were joined by Prof. Simonetta Filippi, Vice Rector for Internationalization at the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome, and Prof. Alessio Gizzi, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. The mission aimed to consolidate strategic relationships and develop new opportunities for international collaboration.
The mission included meetings with key players in the Italian-American community:
Morgagni Medical Society of New York
American Society of the Italian Legions of Merit (ASILM)
National Italian American Foundation (NIAF)
Columbia University
These discussions facilitated a concrete dialogue on student and faculty exchange programs, the development of scholarships, medical and engineering collaborations, and joint research and training initiatives.
During the mission, at the NIAF Gala, an award was also presented to Tom Cox, President of Friends of UCBM, for his philanthropic commitment in support of the Campus Bio-Medico. Specifically, he was recognized for his contribution to promoting and funding scholarships dedicated to international students, facilitating access to outstanding academic paths, and strengthening the university’s internationalization process.
The mission confirmed the strategic role of Friends of UCBM, a New York-based foundation spun off from the Biomedical University Foundation. It plays a key part in fostering US fundraising aimed at supporting international students’ access to the programs offered, developing scholarships, and strengthening the research and innovation projects of both the University and the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital Foundation.
