Can Benevolence change the world?

Some fundamental questions are at the core of our project, not only questions about how and what to donate, but above all why to donate: what are the deep motivations that push people to carry out authentic gestures of donation, acts of generosity only for the good of other individuals and of society. These questions led the Biomedical University Foundation to organize a thematic Workshop held in Rome at Palazzo Altieri on 5th July 2018, one year after the death of Joaquín Navarro-Vall, trying to explore the theme of Philanthropy with a specific thematic focus on “Benevolence”.

A lively debate emerged from the multi-faceted presentations, offering a set of contributions that go well beyond the workshop day: ideas capable of inspiring, guiding, broadening boundaries and at the same time providing a profound awareness of a society more supportive and, consequently, more attentive to others’ needs . A more responsible and sensitive society to the question: “Can Benevolence change the world?”.

Initiatives with real human depth, in actual fact, almost always come from private individuals who are closer to real problems of society than public institutions and even States can be: individual initiatives, perhaps even small, but real and concrete, able to contribute with personal initiatives of solidarity and to intervene in a practical way to find solutions for individual and social well-being.

We aim to make Benevolence a strength and a topic of cultural elaboration, a central pillar to support over time the growth of Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome and its University Hospital in the various components of assistance, teaching and research.

It has become clear from the international context that the existence of an endowment fund is fundamental to support private institutions such as Campus Bio-Medico University in order to ensure the protection of its mission focused on innovation, cutting-edge research, and patient-centric healthcare focused on personal dignity.

These have always been the distinctive traits that – since its origin, twenty-five years ago – have characterized Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome and which today, thanks to the Biomedical University Foundation, we aim to bring forward over time, to make this University a service to people, the local community and the national scene alike.

To the question “Can Benevolence change the world?”, our Foundation – with the contribution of many other people – wants to answer: “Yes, Benevolence can change the world!
